History of She Got Game®
Founded in 2002 by journalist Tandaleya Wilder
She Got Game® was founded in 2002 by award-winning journalist Tandaleya Wilder as one of the first nationally recognized women’s sports radio platforms in the United States.
Created to spotlight women athletes and elevate women’s sports coverage at a time when such programming was limited, She Got Game® launched as a dedicated women’s sports radio show and later expanded into digital and podcast formats.
National Media Recognition
Shortly after its launch, She Got Game® was featured in The New York Times in the March 17, 2002 article, “The View From/Fairfield; A Radio Show's Lineup: Women's Sports Only,” recognizing the program’s unique focus on women’s athletics.
Over the years, Tandaleya Wilder contributed numerous national reports through NPR’s newscast unit, covering major sporting events including the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, NCAA championships, and other prominent competitions. These national reports helped establish She Got Game® as one of the early dedicated platforms covering women’s sports journalism.
Awards & Institutional Recognition
In 2003, Tandaleya Wilder received a Gracie Award at the 28th Annual Gracie Allen Awards in New York City. Presented by the Alliance for Women in Media, the Gracie Awards honor exemplary programming created by, for, and about women.
She was also inducted into the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication Hall of Fame at Temple University in recognition of her contributions to sports broadcasting and journalism.
Continued Coverage & Expansion
For more than two decades, She Got Game® has maintained consistent coverage of major women’s sporting events, producing interviews, commentary, and long-form public radio specials.
The platform has expanded into digital media, including short-form sports commentary, podcast programming, and online distribution, while maintaining its original mission: to elevate and document the achievements of women athletes. The platform has remained continuously active since its founding in 2002.
Legacy
Since its founding in 2002, She Got Game® has remained dedicated to amplifying women’s sports voices through broadcast journalism, national reporting, and digital storytelling.
The brand continues to build on its legacy as one of the early platforms devoted exclusively to women’s sports media.
